This course works through the GHG Protocol's Category 1 measurement hierarchy in the order maturity actually progresses: starting with spend-based estimation using appropriate emission factor databases, moving to hybrid methods that apply activity data where it exists, and building toward supplier-specific and primary product carbon footprint data collected directly from key suppliers. Participants learn how to prioritise which suppliers to engage first based on emissions materiality rather than ease of contact, how to request and verify product carbon footprint data against recognised methodologies, and how to handle the data quality and double-counting issues that arise when supplier-reported figures do not reconcile with spend-based totals.
